Meaninglessness as a Frequency Collapse

The standard explanations for this are historical and sociological—the "death of God" and the disenchantment of the world by a purely materialistic science. These are descriptions of the symptom, not the diagnosis.

The FRC framework offers a more fundamental diagnosis, one rooted in the physics of consciousness. Nihilism is the phenomenological experience of a system-wide frequency collapse. The Anatomy of a Frequency Collapse

A healthy, integrated self has access to all the rungs of the Ladder of Being. Its life is rich with physical sensation (μ1/μ2), emotional vibrancy (μ3), intellectual clarity (μ4), and a deep sense of connection to a symbolic and archetypal purpose (μ5).

The nihilistic self has suffered a catastrophic de-coherence from the higher μ-levels. Its consciousness has "collapsed" into the lower, high-entropy layers:

intellect becomes the highest arbiter. But the intellect, operating in isolation, is a tool for deconstruction. It looks at the universe and finds only physical laws and random events, and correctly concludes, from its limited perspective, that there is no inherent purpose in the data alone.

Dampening of the Emotional Field (μ3): A life without purpose cannot

sustain high-frequency emotions. The field dampens down to a narrow bandwidth of cynicism, apathy, and anxiety (ΔS high but frozen).

Entrapment in the Physical Field (μ1/μ2): Ultimately, a collapsed

consciousness becomes trapped in the lowest levels. The only "real" things are immediate physical sensation and the satisfaction of basic urges—a pointless pursuit of distraction from the pervasive emptiness.

The nihilist is a musician trying to play a symphony on only the lowest keys of the piano, blind to the higher dimensions of meaning because their own "receiver" has been de-tuned. You cannot "argue" someone out of nihilism. The solution must be a process of re-tuning the field, of systematically re-establishing a coherent connection to the abandoned higher levels.
